New Facebook ‘Fix’ – Interest Lists: More Hurt than Help?

Oct 17, 2012   //   by Raylene   //   Blog, Facebook, Social Media for Business  //  11 Comments

A post has been circulating all over Facebook the last few days, about how to be sure that your page fans can see all of your page posts. It looks like this, with a few variations:

“Facebook now requires page administrators to pay to promote their updates if we want our content to be seen by our fans. If we do not pay to promote our posts, only about 10% of the fans receive the updates on the Facebook home page feed.

To keep RECEIVING ALL POSTS FROM US you have to hover the mouse on the “Like” button near our name. In the drop-down menu select “ADD TO INTEREST LISTS”. Then create an interest list (and make a name for your favorite sites). When you select that interest list you will see ALL of our posts and you won’t miss anything important!

We recommend that you follow the above instructions for ANY Facebook page you care about, so you can continue seeing all the posts from the pages you love.

Thanks for your help, and please share this with your friends!”

Is this true? NO! Not exactly. Read more >>

Schedule Posts in Advance on your Facebook Page

Aug 29, 2012   //   by Raylene   //   Blog, Facebook, Social Media for Business  //  Comments Off on Schedule Posts in Advance on your Facebook Page

Facebook now has a feature that lets PAGES schedule posts in advance!  Many of us were using Hootsuite or other 3rd-party applications for scheduling, but now we can do it all right within Facebook on your Facebook Pages. (I still use Hootsuite for Twitter and TONS of other stuff.)

Here’s a quick series of screenshots to show you how to schedule Posts on your Facebook Page ahead of time.

You can schedule any post you want to make on your page by including your update in the Status box, and even adding a photo/video, like you normally would. Instead of clicking POST, click on the CLOCK at the bottom left of the status update box:

Click the Clock in the bottom left to schedule

Then you select your Year, Month, Day, Hour and Minute, and click “Schedule”: Read more >>

Delete Unwanted Apps from Personal Facebook Profile

In a recent article from TechCrunch about Design Tricks Facebook Uses To Affect Your Privacy Decisions, it is once again very apparent that applications within Facebook have access to your user data.

Facebook does disclose to new users of an application what information the application will have access to, but unless you’re really paying attention you could miss this disclosure altogether (see the above linked article for more specifics).  In addition, if you aren’t familiar with your privacy settings, or how to change them, Facebook applications can have access to your information long after you’ve stopped using the apps, as well.

I recorded a quick video explaining how to delete unwanted applications from your personal Facebook profile, and I also address a bit about the security and privacy settings associated with your applications. Read more >>
